Frequently Asked Questions:
1. Why do I need the Desktop Update from Internet Explorer 4?
Why do I get errors with Simply Transparent on my Windows95/NT4 computer?
Well, Simply Transparent was written and tested on Windows98 and WindowsME systems. I used some system calls that did not exist until Internet Explorer 4 was released. It came with a Windows98 preview named the "Desktop Update". This desktop update does not come with any other versions of Internet Explorer.
This problem really only pertains to Windows95 and WindowsNT4 users. You probably did not install Internet Explorer 4Æs Desktop update, or you skipped Internet Explorer all together.
The solution to this problem is actually simple. Find a copy of Internet Explorer 4. Remove your current version of Internet Explorer, then install Internet Explorer 4. Finally reinstall your current version of Internet Explorer.2. Why does my icons not redraw after I change my selection?
You have Active DesktopÆs "Show Web Content" (also called "View As Web Page") enabled. Disable it.
If you have a wallpaper image that wonÆt show with out the "Show Web Content" see the section of this FAQ called "Converting my wallpaper to a Windows Bitmap (BMP)".3. Converting my wallpaper to a Windows Bitmap (BMP)
Open Internet Explorer and then select the menu option File->Open. Now click "Browse". In this new window navigate to your file and double click it.(or highlight it and then click the "Open" button) Once you have the image loaded into Internet Explorer right click it and select "Save Picture As...". This will bring up a window that looks like the window you used to open the file. In this window, there is a drop-down list box with file type options. Click the down arrow on this box and select "Bitmap (*.BMP)". Finally navigate to the place you want to put it, (most likely it will put it were the original is) and select Save. Now you have a second copy of your image in a Bitmap format which can be used as a wallpaper with out needing that pesky "Show Web Content" feature.
